The Church
The 'Sanctae Mariae
de Spelonche' church is the oldest in the city of Sperlonga but it is
now closed due to the finding of ancient and precious frescos under restoration.
The church was a very important religious place among the south of Lazio
during the twelfth century. Originally built with two naves the church
now is enlarged by the Chapel of "Presepe" (crib) dedicated to the saint
Leone Magno which was proclaimed the patron saint of the town. There is
also the Chapel of San Domenico enriched by the frescos on the ceiling
and an altar from the '700.
